Sketches of New Journey
The rough sketch

As you see above is the rough sketch – the first step of drawing any piece. It’s very important and shouldn’t be skipped because it will show the overall position of character and elements. However, it’s not the time defining the theme and mood in this step.
My initiated idea is to draw a girl riding on magical broom. That’s it! When I have the idea, it’s the time to sketch it on the paper. Basically, I just draw gesture of the character and making sure that I did it in correctly proportion. So, the basic knowledge of drawing gesture is essential.
For the magic brooms, I want it to be unique, so I design it as a mechanic one. I plan to have like turbo fans behind there; however, I changed this idea in the finished work.
Another thing I added on this piece was a flying pig on the bottom-right. I believe you will see it as a ball shape. Yes, it really was a rough one.Apparently, the sketch has very different from the finished. I can say that it’s 90% different, but it’s the usual thing happens in drawing.
The final sketch

This is the final sketch. It’s crystal clear on the image what it shows. I started defining the theme and mood which are Japanese theme with mechanic and mystery feeling. And when I got the theme & mood, it’s the time I put the details in the sketch.
The character put on the Japanese cloth – Kimono. She also got a backpack; it fulfill the character; otherwise, her look is too empty for me.
I draw the details on the brooms. Obviously, it looks so mechanic now. I designed a broom head as a rocket. It looked outstanding for me.
I have some big chang here form the rough sketch. As you can see, it should be a flying pig at the bottom-right, now it’s gone, and there is a mechanic rabbit on the top-left instead. The only reason that I removed the pig is because I don’t wanna draw it. That’s it. I replaced the bottom-right with the town background.
The final sketch has done and ready to go to the next step. However, I have to mention that this final sketch is still much different from final piece. Because during working on next step, I found something better. I decreased the mechanic look of broom to normal but still has a feeling of Japanese style, and I removed the city background because I want this piece look mysterious – give no sense of where she is.
